THE FALCON COLLECTION #1:

These are all in pretty good shape!! There
are no closed captions, BOOOOO! These are
all a pretty fun flash from the past, with
pretty good stories and fun sets from years
gone by!!

THE FALCON - THE GAY FALCON(1941):

In this introduction to the Falcon character,
we have a stock broker who is really a playboy
of sorts who dabbles in mystery!! In this, he
gets pulled into a party where he's asked to
find out how valuable jewelry is being stole from
the lady that throws a bunch of parties!! This
is a lot of fun, with George Sanders' character
being much like his Shadow character, with many
girls throwing themselves his way!! The supporting
cast is excellant, and the mystery is pretty
decent!! Great start to the series of Falcons!! A

A review from IMDb.com:

The first in RKO's lighthearted series about suave
detective Gay Lawrence (aka The Falcon). Playing
the title role at the start of the series is the
great George Sanders, fresh off playing The Saint.
Fans of both will no doubt recognize many similarities
between the two series. In this first entry, the
Falcon investigates jewel robberies and a socialite's
murder while juggling two pretty ladies. I'm a big
fan of most of these old B detective series, including
the Falcon. It's not my favorite but it's lots
of fun. George Sanders has rarely been more enjoyable
than he is in this role -- charming, sophisticated,
and witty at every turn. Allen Jenkins is very
funny as the Falcon's comic relief sidekick, Goldie.
Solid support from Wendy Barrie, Gladys Cooper,
Arthur Shields, Turhan Bey, and Edward Brophy. A
good start to an enjoyable series of
films. - utgard14 from USA

THE FALCON - A DATE WITH THE FALCON(1942):

This one's about diamonds, both real and
fake!! A man has invented a way to make
diamonds that will revolutionize the industry
and make it cheaper for various industrial
companies to obtain!! Seems like a great
idea, only problem, there are people who
want to steal this formula, no matter what!! A

A review from IMDb.com:

Second in RKO's fun series of B mystery films
about a suave detective named Gay Lawrence
(The Falcon). In the first few movies in the
series, the Falcon is played by the great
George Sanders. Here the Falcon investigates
the disappearance of an inventor who has
discovered how to create synthetic diamonds
that are identical to the real thing. Sanders
is terrific in this role -- charming, witty,
and flirtatious. It's a shame he didn't do
more than the few he did. But his brother
Tom Conway was a fine replacement so I can't
complain. Wendy Barrie returns as the
Falcon's love interest. Allen Jenkins
steals the show as the comic relief sidekick,
Goldie. The rest of the solid supporting
cast includes James Gleason, Mona Maris,
and Edward Gargan. Hans Conreid has a funny
bit as a hotel clerk. In the previous Falcon
movie, he played a police sketch artist.
The Falcon series was admittedly formulaic,
and this whole business about a kidnapped
inventor is definitely nothing new, but
it was undeniably entertaining. The brisk
pace, short runtime, and healthy amounts
of comedy help a lot. It's lighthearted fun
for anybody looking to kill an hour and
change. - utgard14 from USA

THE FALCON - THE FALCON TAKES OVER(1942):

Most everyone is back in this third incarnation
of The Falcon, with the exception of his "fiance"
Helen Reed(Wendy Berrie)! Her absence is explained
that she's "out of town"! This one's about a man
who breaks out of prison and goes hunting for his
former love, Velma! There's a murder and it's
assumed that the man(name's Moose) killed him!

As with the last episode, there is no occupation
given for Mr. Lawrence!! A

From IMDb.com:

Ward Bond is Moose Malloy, deranged escaped convict
searching for a one time girlfriend named Velma.
Drawing considerable noisy attention to himself,
the Moose tracks down a shady night club manager
who seems to know something—but is quickly murdered.
That's just the beginning of a complicated plot
that includes seedy characters, dimly lit locales,
and more questions than answers.

George Sanders is excellent as Gay Lawrence—also
known, of course, as the Falcon. Sanders handles
the picture's serious mystery elements with gravity
and style. He also manages to fit into the other
half of the plot, which is essentially comic relief
provided by the Falcon's right hand man Goldie Locke
(Allen Jenkins) and the usual bickering police duo
(James Gleason and Edward Gargan as exasperated
inspector and dumb assistant detective).

Lynn Bari is fine as the female in the
case - unexceptional but solid as the usual
plucky girl that the Falcon teams up with. She
and Sanders exchange some decent banter:
"You believe me, don't you?" she asks at
one point. "I like you," he answers, "which
is much more important."

Easy viewing for fans of series mysteries,
with Sanders' strong performance standing
out.- csteidler from Minnesota

THE FALCON - THE FALCON'S BROTHER(1942):

George Sanders wanted out of the Falcon series
and it just so happens that his brother, Tom
Conway, wanted in! So with this movie the switch
begins! George isn't in this a lot!

The story starts out with Gay going to a ship
to meet up with his brother, where he finds
out about a murder on board! The name given to
him happens to be said brother!! One thing leads
to another murder or two, and well, just watch!!

This starts the run of Tom Conway as the Falcon!
Also as a side note, this has the great Keye Luke
(Charlie Chan movies) in it!! A

A review from an IMDb.com customer:

George Sanders plays The Falcon for the last
time in "The Falcon's Brother," a 1942 programmer
starring Sanders, Tom Conway, and Jane Lawrence.
The intricate plot focuses on a fashion house
and a fashion magazine, poisoning with cigars,
mistaken identity, and lots of other things
in a mere 1 hour and 10 minutes or so. It's
1942, so you can also expect Nazis to be
involved. "Something changed after Pearl
Harbor," a character tells Gay (Sanders).
"Most things," he agrees.

This film was the transition so that Sanders'
real-life brother, Tom Conway, could take over
the series. Sanders was somewhat smoother than
his brother, more suave and handsome, but Conway
was a serviceable actor, and their speaking
voices were somewhat close. There was just
something about Sanders that made him so
good as the Falcon and the Saint - panache
maybe. Both Gay and Tom go after the women
like crazy in this one. Always fun and light
entertainment. -blanche-2 from United States

THE FALCON - THE FALCON STRIKES BACK(1943):

Tom Conway has firmly taken over the roll as
the Falcon, and in this it's a case of mising
bonds and the the Falcon is called upon to
solve the mystery, which includes murder!! For
me, this is so far the least of the series!
Whether that's because it takes some getting
used to Tom in the role of The Falcon instead
of his brother George, or just not quite as
riviting, not sure!! Still, worth a watch! B+

A review from IMDb.com:

Falcon Strikes Back, The (1943)

*** (out of 4)

Edward Dmytryk directs this fifth film in the
series, which has The Falcon (Tom Conway) trying
to track down war bond thieves. Up to this point
in the series, this film here is clearly the
best as it deals with a very interesting story
and also features Conway in fine form. The story
of the war bonds being stolen adds a great
interest and I'm sure it was even more fascinating
back when the film was released. The supporting
cast is also in fine form with Cliff Edwards
really coming into form as The Falcon's partner.
The film also manages to be quite funny with
several neat little twists including a great
gag on how The Falcon gets away from the police.
There's a little puppet show including, which
isn't too good but there's an added bonus of
a Goofy puppet and even Sherlock Holmes gets
a poke in the ribs during a
joke. - Michael_Elliott from Louisville, KY

THE FALCON - THE FALCON IN DANGER(1943):

But really, can't a handsom, smart debonaire man
like the Falcon find a woman who's just as smart,
debonaire and pretty???? Anyway, another case where
our good friend The Falcon could have sucsessfully
solved a case much quicker if it weren't for a meddling,
very irritating "girlfriend"! The case itself, a plane
crash lands at an airport with all hands, um, gone!
While this wasn't hard to figure out, it still took
about half the movie to do it! Several good supporting
actors/actresses to help out here! Another fun movie! A

A review from IMDb.com:

Yes, the plot was a little "messier" - as well
as the print in this entry in the Falcon series
[#6/13], but in spite of all that still very
enjoyable. The gang was all there - Lawrence,
Clark and Gargan, plus regular Falconite Jean
Brooks, the RKO staircase from Ambersons/Cat
People was seen to good advantage in Clarence
Kolb's house - no Goldie however.

Passenger plane crash lands at airport at the
beginning of the film and is found to be literally
running on empty - a wealthy industrialist who
was on board is presumed kidnapped, especially
when ransom notes are left for his daughter. The
Falcon is asked to help solve the mystery by 2
beautiful women. It gets ... slightly complicated
from here, what with murders, a bitter daughter
of a missing employee, stolen securities, a
broken padlock, and a foreign antique dealer
with 2 trigger happy sons but a rather splendidly
cluttered shop. Not a second in the 67 minutes
was wasted! The only thing that really grated
was the Falcon's girlfriend played by Amelita
Ward laid her jealousy on with a trowel, and
from being amusing at first got irritating - there
was a seriousness there I never liked! Favourite
bit: Carefree Gargan helping himself to beer
and sandwiches at the gambling den and continually
interrupting his boss Clark.

Not the best Falcon film but not too bad, anyway
well worth watching for fans and well worth
avoiding for enemies. - Gary170459 from Derby, UK

THE FALCON - THE FALCON AND THE CO-EDS(1943):

Our good Mr Falcon is in seventh heaven! He
is called upon by one of the girls of an all-girls
school where a professor has died, and while
it's been ruled a heart attack, she thinks he
was murdered!! The three young girls who do the
singing are pretty great harmonists!! B+

A review from IMDb.com:

At the end of The Falcon in Danger, a female
college student shows up and asks for his help.
This movie seems to continue that story but
also forgets that scene even took place. Here,
a different college student asks the Falcon for
help investigating a murder her psychic
roommate predicted would happen.

Because it wouldn't be a Falcon movie without
pretty women, this one has plenty. The most
prominent are Amelita Ward, Jean Brooks, Isabel
Jewell, and Rita Corday as the girl with
supposed psychic abilities. Ward played the
Falcon's irritating Southern belle fiancee
in the last picture. Here she's much better
(without the accent) as the girl who asks
the Falcon for help. Cliff Clark and Edward
Gargan return as Inspector Donovan and his
sidekick Bates. Both are fun. The scene stealers
of the movie are the three girls playing The
Three Ughs (Nancy McCollum and the Alvarez
sisters, Ruth and Juanita). They're absolutely
delightful.

The whole cast is good, even those playing
minor parts. Star Tom Conway is, of course,
as debonair as ever. He seems to really be
enjoying himself in this one. The college
setting and cast of mostly young women brings
a fresh energy to the series and Conway's
performance in particular. It's possibly
my favorite of the series and certainly
the best starring Conway. - utgard14 from USA
