THE FALCON COLLECTION #2:
These are all in very good shape!! However,
there are no closed captions! BOOOOO!! These
are all a pretty fun flash from the past, with
pretty good stories and fun sets from years
gone by!!
THE FALCON - THE FALCON OUT WEST(1944):
A rich rancher is killed in NY, and this
takes The Falcon out to his ranch to find out
how it was done!! The ever wonderful and ever
beautiful Barbara Hale(Perry Mason's girl Friday,
Della Street) is in this!! A-
A review from IMDb.com:
When Lyle Talbot rich Texas rancher dies of
snake bite at a New York night club while
he's celebrating his upcoming marriage to
Carole Gallagher, that's enough cause for
suspicion on its face. Tom Conway gets involved
when the Talbot's ex-wife tries to hire him
to break up the forthcoming nuptials. Conway
says that isn't his line, but being on the
scene of the murder he has to get involved
if for no other reason than the cops in the
persons of Cliff Clark and Edward Gargan.
Whatever the answers are they're out west
back at the ranch.
So all the suspects and the Falcon meet
up at Talbot's ranch. They include Talbot's
former business partner Minor Watson and
his daughter Bsrbara(correction: That's
Barbara!! RP) Hale, lawyer Don Douglas,
and of course the ex-wife Joan Barclay.
Barclay in fact goes west with Conway and
the cops follow them. With all the Dramatus
Personae in one spot the better for Conway
to find the culprit.
The Falcon Out West is a decent enough entry
in the Falcon series, in the middle of the
pack. Fans of the series should
approve. - bkoganbing from Buffalo, New York
For the first time in many episodes of The
Falcon it is referred to that he is an
investment broker!! Another aside here, this
loses a bit without the usual police officers
Donovan and Bates! They are no longer part of
the series! This one's hard to pinpoint the
actual case that The Falcon is working! There's
a murder, and a painting that seems an impossibility,
as the girl that posed for it wants to get it
for reasons unknown, but the painter had died
fifteen years pryor and the girl looks just the
same as she did in the painting!! Anyway, the
whole movie moves to Mexico where of course
Tom puts everything in place! B
A review from IMDb.com:
This "Falcon" entry relocates to Mexico and
features all the stock characters and situations
that one would expect from Hollywood in that
setting - some of which (the repeated footage
of songs in the cantina, for instance) is
obviously used simply as filler. But what
raises the resulting film somewhat above average
is the unexpected twist it manages to place
on much of its material. Barbara's exotic young
stepmother turns out to be genuinely attached
to her, for instance, while the grinning,
thick-witted Mexican who seems to be playing
a part in a bad film turns out to be a very
cool bird indeed.
There is some artful photography and some
smart dialogue, and while there does seem to
be a certain amount of tourist advertising
blatantly inserted -- literally, as in
photographs of travel brochures -- this film
is more interesting than I thought it was
going to be. Oddly enough, while it features
a number of murders they are all left more
or less in the background to the main
mystery, which is the question of who faked
the stolen portrait... or indeed, if it was
faked at all... - Igenlode Wordsmith from England

And here we have two great supporting actors!
Returning is Barbara Hale, and also here is Sheldon
Leonard(Producer of many comedies, including
Make Room For Daddy & The Dick Van Dyke Show!!) A
From IMDb.com:
Fast paced mystery, surprisingly unpredictable.
It's nice to see so many locations in Los Angeles
of the mid 1940's. Much of the film gives you studio
backlot scenes, and behind the camera context,
within a Hollywood soundstage. Even so, the story
draws you in, and the characters are believable.
The film moves at a good pace, and keeps you guessing.
Thoroughly enjoyable.- Don (scifiguy-2) from Las Vegas, Nv.

This is a great little movie! Tom and Goldie
A review from an IMDb.com customer:
Good entry in the Falcon series that features
the return of sidekick Goldie Locke. No, it's
not Allen Jenkins, unfortunately. This time
Goldie is played by Edward Brophy. He's not
quite as good as Jenkins but he's fun in his
way. Tom Conway certainly benefits from having
someone to play off of. The plot to this one
has the Falcon vacationing in San Francisco
when he tries to help a little girl and gets
mixed up in a plot involving murder and a
mystery surrounding a former bootlegger. Good
supporting cast includes Robert Armstrong,
Fay Helm, and Jason Robards, Sr. Rita Corday
returns for another Falcon movie, again playing
a new character. Child actor Sharyn Moffett
is very cute. This is an entertaining film in
a series that had started to look like it was
on its last legs when the Falcon was rambling
around Texas and Mexico. - utgard14 from USA

This is one the few Falcons where Tom's not
either getting enaged or getting married! The
story in this one is that Tom meets up with a
socialite at the races and because of a "tip"
from Tom she invites him to her birthday party
where there's been a murder and a theft! Because
there's a beautiful girl involved, Tom hangs
around to solve the crimes! For some reason I
didn't feel as vested in this one as the others!
Not sure why! This does have the great Elisha
Cook Jr.(Magnum P.I., Maltese Falcon) in it!! B
A review from IMDb.com:
Tom Conway as the Falcon re-playing the part
his brother George Sanders did in the first of
this series -- The Gay Falcon -- breaking up
a phony insurance scam. Supporting cast includes
Rita Corday again. For some reason in this entry
we see Vice Barnett playing the role of Goldie
Locke that is much better done elsewhere by
Edward Brophy. Best part of movie is watching
Elisha Cook play the small insecure and obsessed
man married to a beautiful woman -- Jane Greer.
Cook gives you a glimpse of what he does better
in more notable films, but his performance warrants
your attention in this otherwise formula
entry. -Jim Tritten from Corrales, NM

Last of the Falcon entries with Tom Conway in it!
This is again about synthetic industrial diamonds
as was the movie "A Date With The Falcon"!! As usual,
The Falcon gets tagged for murder - twice!! Once in
NY and once in Florida!! And all because he gets
his eye caught by a pretty gal! B+
A review from IMDb.com:
This film is a fun little private eye detective story
like they aren't made any more. It's all there: Tom
Conway is the suave detective called The Falcon, Goldie
Locke (what's in a name) is his wisecracking bumbling
sidekick, Louisa Braganza is the damsel in distress,
and of course there are the damsels maid, the professor
with the secret formula, the bad guy that wants the
formula, and the police inspector who's after The
Falcon. There is a murder, and The Falcon gets
implicated. The scenery is night clubs, expensive
hotel rooms, a luxury train, the suburbs, and beautiful
cars. Go watch this little gem when you see it pass
by on afternoon TV! - kees90210 from Netherlands
