THE MUMMY ULTIMATE EDITION SET(1999)

THE MUMMY(1999):

This is surprisingly entertaining! I didn't expect much
as I am a big fan of the classic "horror" movies(The
Mummy[1932], Frankenstein[1931], Dracula(1931] ect.)!
However, this has just the right humor, along with
the "horror" aspects, good acting, fun script and
appropriate music to make this a great movie! B+

A review from an IMDb.com customer:

Rick O'Connell (Brendan Frazer) leads the beautiful
Evelyn Carnahan (Rachel Weisz) to Hamunaptra (The
City of the Dead) where reading from a book brings
Imhotep (Pharaoh Seti I's High Priest) back to life.

Once revived Imhotep has only one purpose in this
world, to bring his love 'Anck Su Namun' back from
the dead to join him, and will kill anyone who gets
in his way.

Although based on a Horror Theme, there is little
horror on show here, but there are plenty of Great
Action Moments, some brilliant visuals and some
good humour.

The dialogue is well written and punchy, this
combined with some great characters bring the
story to life and it turns out to be a terrific Film
that is more Action/Comedy than Horror.

THE MUMMY RETURNS(2001):

The four main stars from the first movie return for
the second time around, which begins the "Scorpion
King" saga, along with The Rock(Duane Johnson)! Again
a fun story with good script and acting throughout! A
good follow-up to the first movie! B+

A review from IMDb.com:

Rick and Evelyn now married with a son, find themselves
amidst the second coming of Imhotep. After their Son
Alex is kidnapped by Imhotep as he seeks the Scorpion
King (The Rock) Rick and Evelyn must pursue their sons
capture, with the aid of the clues Alex leaves along the way.

Aside from some unusual revelations in Evelyn and Ricks
past, the movie concentrates mainly on the action this
time out and runs a little short on story.

I Liked the evolution of Evey's character, now she's
hardened up she makes a mean adversary, and takes
part in some good battles.

All in all, i enjoyed the experience and once again
the Visuals were more than adequate.

If you enjoyed the first, then watch this one, its
good fun and has some fine moments.

THE SCORPION KING(2002):

A much lighter movie than the two previous Mummy
movies, this has enough of a plot to make it enjoyable
as a movie, yet humor enough to make it fun! This is
The Rock's debut as a lead in a movie, and he does a
very decent job! With Michael Clarke Duncan and
Grant Heslov for humor, this is a great movie!! A-

A review from IMDb.com:

In what has been marked as a very anticipated film this
summer, I bet you hands down that it is the only one
which doesn't fall short. The Scorpion King comes through
with great action, romance for all the ladies, girlfriends
and Rock-ets, as well as comedy, and SNL shows how
well The Rock does comedy (Not to mention the WWF!).
This film takes time out to laugh at its self, which you
have to respect an action film that knows it is not an
Oscar winner. Overall, a movie that makes you say,
"Now that was worth 8 bucks!" and really mean it this
time. I thought that the movie had everything it
promised and then some. A good beginning to what
looks like a long run for The Rock in film. If you
haven't seen this film yet - what is wrong with you!?
Go...go now! The summer rush is just starting, and
an old fashion "Conan"-style Action spectacular is
just the way to kick it off! - Jason R. Lovett

Nils Allen Stewart ... Torturer

THE MUMMY 3:
TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPOROR(2008):

Starts a little slow, and takes a little getting
use to a different person playing Evelyn, but
if you hang with it, this really takes off and
is quite fun!! Good script, good acting, great
action sequences, and an all-around great
finale to the series of Mummy movies(not
including the Scorpion King movies)! A-

A review from an IMDb.com customer:

No, this Mummy doesn't come even close to
topping the first one, but I would argue that
it is as good or possibly even better than the
second one. Yes, there are several things we
can quibble about (Brendan Fraser's son looking
as old as he does, abominable snowmen from
out of nowhere, and a very ho-hum love story)
but this movie was not made for the Oscars,
people. It was made so that we could check
our brains at the door and have fun, and the
movie does deliver on that count.

I really liked the idea of using the real-life
terra cotta army as the basis for the story.
Granted it's not historically accurate of course,
but there is a lot of mystery associated with
that tomb in China and I feel that if you want
to make a $175 million summer popcorn flick
with that as its basis, so be it.

Overall, good escapist nonsense. - charlescurtis2003

THE SCORPION KING SET:

The fourth(so far all of the) Scorpion King movies!

THE SCORPION KING(2002):

SEE DESCRIPTION ABOVE!!

THE SCORPION KING 2(2010):
RISE OF A WARRIOR:

This starts out with promise!! It has several strikes
against it, the least not being the fact that the Rock
opted out of this!! Gone also is Michael Clark Duncan,
who was in Armageddon, The Whole Nine Yards and
Daredevil! Too bad, as the first Scorpion King
was a great movie!!

I can see that the reason most people pan this
movie is probably due to the "acting" of Randy
Couture(Expendables 2 & 3)! While a decent fighter
and a decent action film actor, this is not his finest
film!!

The basic premise of this one is that a boy's(Michael
Copon) father is killed by Couture and he vows
to kill him, which becomes rather difficult as
Couture has now become King by killing the former
King!!

All that being said, this does have some humor
and isn't a terrible movie, just not of the caliber
of the first Scorpion King! B+

A review from IMDb.com:

If you expect some cool masterpiece of special
effects and grandiose acting, you will be disappointed.
If you understand and accept that this is like a more
serious episode from Hercules or Xena, then you will
probably like it.

I like Michael Copon. I have no idea what make him
star in this film, but he didn't do too bad. The script
is just ridiculous, of course, but loyal to the "he killed
my dad, I need revenge" thing that is so popular
nowadays. Everybody looks ridiculously good,
especially the girls (well, I am a guy, so it figures).
The effects are simple, but to the point.

Bottom line: it's a video release. It's either a gem
in the gutter or it is the gutter, right? - siderite

THE SCORPION KING 3(2012):
BATTLE FOR REDEMPTION

This has a considerable amount more humor
than the first two Scorpion King movies, maybe
just a bit too much!! It does have some action,
and kind of a story line, but it's pretty hard to
follow!!

Basic premise here is there's this dude who
has lost favor with his own kinsmen, having
lost everything, so he decides to become a
mercenary, only interested in getting money
and gold!!

So he goes on several excursions to do just
that!! Set in the jungle, this has about as
much to do with Scorpion King as Bambi does
to Lord Of The Rings!!!

Still, kind of a fun diversion, just don't expect
anything like Scorpion King!!

I will say this, the ending was quite good, and
was an obvious set up for the fourth installment,
but from what I can pick up from reading about
Scorpion King 4, it has nothing to do with this!! B

A review from IMDb.com:

OK, this is not Conan and it's not 'really' Scorpion
King in anything but name. But having said that, I
think other reviewers are being too harsh. I found
this movie to be an enjoyable evening's diversion.
The action sequences are fun to watch, the acting
is decent (if a bit hammy in places), and the story
line is pretty good. The settings are richly decorated
and the battle scenes look fairly well done. In other
words, nothing spectacular here, but certainly not
lacking some charm. Billy Zane is evil fun as always,
with the glare and voice that exude malevolence.
Victor Webster does a decent job as Mathayus,
giving him a good blend of humor and sad weariness.
Bostin Christopher started off as a bit too buffoonish
as Olaf, but grew on me as the movie progressed.
And Krystal Vee is a delight as Silda, a role she fills
with surprising depth. The film has enough action
and plot twists to keep you entertained, just don't
be looking for high cinema. - crmarkie-784-893409

THE SCORPION KING 4(2015):
QUEST FOR POWER

Ok so this is not ever going to garner a throng of
accolades!! Nor awards! Nor, well, anything!! It does
however have a considerable amount of humor,
action and cool outfits!! B

A review from IMDb.com:

The negative reviews for this film abound. It seems
most are comparing it to the first Scorpion King, with
"The Rock." Admittedly, the three that have thus far
followed it aren't nearly of the same quality. But if
you put that aside and just take it for what it is, it's
a fun film, with some wit and levity that even had
me chuckle out loud a couple of times. It wasn't full
of gratuitous sex or vulgarity. It's just a fun action
adventure popcorn movie. It will not rank among
the best movies of all time nor is it trying to do so.
I had just returned from another 7-hour chemotherapy
session and this film hit the spot: Brainless and fun
entertainment. If you just take it for what it is, I
hope you'll enjoy Scorpion King 4 as much as I
did. - ThePerplexicator
