4 movies starring Jean-Claude Van Damme!
KICKBOXER(1988):
Van Damme plays the brother of a champion kickboxer of
the US who goes to Taiwan to take on the champion there!
After the fight, his brother is paralyzed and confined to a
wheelchair! This really pisses Van Damme's character off
and he decides to get revenge!!
He goes to a local master to ask him to teach him how to
beat Tong Po(the local champion and all around ass hole)
and in the process gets involved with the local problems
caused by said Po!!
This has many slow parts, and the training section also
goes slowly! But even these parts have some merit, and
the scenery is very pretty!! This makes the training part
at least tolerable!! B
From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
This movie had a great story to it; however, the fighting
sequences were not the greatest. In a way the fighting
sequences were incredibly plain. In one of the matches,
the two fighters were literally taking turns kicking each
other one at a time. There was also a lack of any defensive
skills. Almost every hit connected. It just did not make sense.
Despite the fighting sequences lacking exceptional
choreography, the story was well put together. Kurt
Sloane, played by Jean-Claude Van Damme, was determined
to train in martial arts in order to defeat Tong Po, played
by Michel Qissi. Po had defeated Sloane's brother in a
match earlier on in the movie. As a result of that match,
Sloane's brother was paralyzed. So Sloane set out to
train and learn the art of kickboxing in order to seek
vengeance for his brother. - Mhmd_Elgammal

This is suppose to be one of Van Damme's best films!! In it,
he and Dolph Longran play two soldiers who, during the
Vietnam War, killed each other!! Then, later that same movie,
they both show up as altered humans who are pretty much
like The Bionic Man, half human half robot!!
When next we see them, they are taking care of a hostage
situation at a dam! Even though they are supposed to be
devoid of all emotion or personal feelings, it seems that
some of who they were still exists, and this is where the
fun starts!!
I'm not a big fan of war type movies, and this one is pretty
heavily war like!!
Also in this is Jerry Orbach, best known for his work on the
TV show Law And Order! B
From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
During the Vietnam war, Private Luc Deveraux (Jean-Claude
Van Damme) tries to stop Sergeant Andrew Scott (Dolph
Lundgren) who has gone mad. It ends in a massacre and
the military tries to cover it up. Their dead bodies are used
in a secret experiment. In the present day, Colonel Perry
commands these Universal Soldiers in a rescue mission
when terrorists take 30 hostages. Reporter Veronica Roberts
(Ally Walker) follows the team back to their base. The soldiers
start experiencing traumatic recalls and Scott goes crazy
once again. Deveraux saves Veronica and goes on the run.
This introduced me to director Roland Emmerich. This is
a simple action thriller and it's fun. The story works. It's
not complicated. Sure, it has that Terminator flavor but
that's a good thing. This uses Van Damme and Lundgren
to their best possible side. It lets them be a little bit robotic.
It's an excellent action B-movie. - SnoopyStyle

This is way unlike any of JCVD's other movies!! It has to
do with a serial killer in Seattle who the police have been
chasing for months but unable to capture!! And he's been
flaunting it to the main police officer that's been chasing
him and who's really a stupid fuck! Welp, the police officer
retires, and promptly is approached by the feds to help
them capture the killer!! And they have a novel idea on
how to do it: they've cloned him!!! And instead of treating
him civilly, they treat him like he's the killer!! Pretty stupid
really!! This is one of those really disturbing, stupid movies
that I'd never watch again!! C-
From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
Yet another Jean-Claude Van Damme film that sees him
tasked with playing two characters. In spite of its shaky
reputation this isn't half bad, it delivers what most Van
Damme fans expect, namely bonkers fights and shifty
science. Plot has Van Damme as a fire obsessed serial
killer who is always one step ahead of the police. Enter
science as a chance to clone the killer arises and this
sets in motion the wheels of the Van Damme clone
trying to come to terms with his alien world as he, and
world weary police officer Jake Riley (Michael Rooker),
set about capturing the unhinged mad man.
It's of course daft but it's a whole bunch of fun, and
with the strong presence of Rooker supplemented by
two very interesting performances by Van Damme, pic
is in good hands. The fight scenes are smoothly
choreographed and exciting, with director Ringo
Lam clearly aware of what makes a Van Damme
movie work. It's not prime Van Damme, but it's above
average and well worth checking out for those so
inclined. 6/10 - Spikeopath
