5 movies starring Jean-Claude Van Damme! Unfortunately,
there is no closed captioning on any of these movies, and
parts of them are extremely hard to hear!! Then when you
turn up the volume, something happens and it blares out!!
Very unfortunate indeed!! :)
MAXIMUM RISK(1996):
plays a dude who's thrown into a mystery, as his lookalike
is killed in the same town he's in!! Turns out the other dude
is his twin brother whom he had no idea existed!! This takes
him out of his comfortable home town to NY where he runs
into a lot of people who want him dead!!
I would have probably given this a higher grade except the
volume issue really rears its ugly head in this!
Brief nudity!! B+
From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
"Maximum Risk" is not just a good Van Damme movie,
but it's also probably one of the better action movies in
the last few years. The story is well written (for an action
movie), and is fast paced. Director Ringo Lam ("City on Fire")
impresses the viewer with excellent action sequences. This
is definitely Van Damme's best turn as an actor. Natasha
Henstridge does a rather decent turn as the damsel in
distress, and creates good chemistry between herself
and Van Damme. I don't see why this was a huge flop
in theaters; it's surely Van Damme's best and at heart
an exciting action flick. - teddy-33

From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
grew up with the movies of Jean Claude Van Damme, and I
must say that not every movie he has been involved in has
been all that great. And "Double Team" certainly was a swing
and a miss.
So what doesn't work here? Well the storyline for starters. It
wasn't really all that interesting. Sure it was semi-entertaining
for what it was; a mediocre action movie. And the misplaced
attempts at humor didn't really work in favor of the movie.
Jean Claude Van Damme delivers his usual action and martial
arts, but the script didn't give him much to Work with. But the
abysmal choice of Dennis Rodman to star alongside Van Damme
was just wrong on so many levels. Dennis Rodman is devoid of
anything that even remotely resembles acting talent. And the
constant change of his hair color was just downright annoying.
The action sequences are well-choreographed and equally so
executed on the screen, but it is hardly enough to salvage this
train-wreck of a movie.
There are other far better Van Damme movies out
there. - Paul Magne Haakonsen

Right away, one big difference here: there's no other "big" name
This has some of the worst actors in it I've seen in a long time!!
Part two movies have a habit of falling considerably short of
the original movies!! The reporter is excrutiating, Squid is
horrible & the general is worse than bad!! The story has merit:
the main computer running the whole project decides that it
needs to take over every aspect of the base and eliminate the
"biological threat"!! Sounds pretty familiar, right? Anyway, this
is basically an overbearing gunfight that never ends!! Not the
best of JCVD!! C+(mostly for Van Damme, his daughter[Karis
Paige Bryant] and Goldberg!)
From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
There are really only 3 reasons to watch this: Michael Jai White
has some quality screen time; Kiana Tom is quite gorgeous
except for her dismal second incarnation, and this film has
the most hilariously gratuitous T & A sequence since Richard
Pryor and Gene Wilder hid out in the poledancing club in Stir
Crazy.
Actually I quite like Van Damme - he makes martial arts look
attainable. You can go to your classes and think "I'll never be
as good as Jet Li, the guy's superhuman. But I might just get
as good as Van Damme someday." - Fox in Socks

From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
It is nice to see a new Van Damme movie.
The acting was good for this kind of movie. I'm sure many
fans will be disappointed that VD doesn't do any famous kicks.
I will say that this is a very minor step back for VD, after doing
the really good WAKE OF DEATH. I am hoping HARD CORPS will
be a bit better.
I am also glad that not much CGI was used in this movie.
If you're looking for a different sort of movie from Van
Damme, then this is it. Its more of a political action movie.
I'm not much for those kinds of movies. But I will still add
this to my DVD collection, its worth seeing.
Its better then BLACK EAGLE, DERAILED & DESERT HEAT,
at least. :) - moviecollector

I don't like gangsta movies!! I can't stand rap!! I'm not a fan
From a reviewer from IMDb.com:
Jean Claude Van Damme has long gone the way of Steven
Seagal & Wesley Snipes relegated into appearing in Straight
to DVD Films after various commercial flops at the box-office
in the late 90's - but I am glad to say that the quality of the
releases that Van Damme appears in, are FAR higher than
most Straight to DVD releases which you find at the bottom
shelf of your local Blockbuster Store.
But having said that, I was slightly sceptical of 'The Hard Corps'
as It's a Film that Steven Seagal turned down, and I'm not at
all a fan of Hip-hop so my expectations were very low going
into this and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, The
Film while wholly predictable with telegraphed plot twists
it remains slickly made with a reasonable Budget and had
a fair bit of action (though not as much as usual in a JCVD
Film) with good performances from all.
Slightly overlong, at 110 Minutes and needed a good 15
minutes cut off.
It won't go down as one of Van Damme's best, but it's still
worth watching, Keep your expectation low enough and you
should enjoy.
