VINTAGE SCI-FI 6 MOVIE COLLECTION

Six "vintage" sci-fi movies from days of yesteryear!
Unfortunately, as this is a Mill Creek release,
there are no closed captions!! BOOOOOOO!

27TH DAY, THE(1957)

This is starring Gene Barry(Burk's Law, The
War Of The World[1953])! 5 unrelated people,
all from diferent parts of the world, are
wisked off to space by "The Alien" for the
purpose of wiping out the population of the
world so his race can re-populate it! They
can save the people of Earth by keeping
peace for 27 days and not using the devices
they've been given! This is very similar to
the movie "The Day The Earth Stood Still",
just with less alien interference! A very
good movie!! A+

A review from IMDb.com:

This a very thoughtful film. Even though the
film takes place in 1957 the subject matter
is current into todays world. The film makes
you think of society as a whole. Not of just
one nation. The ills and the good of human
relations with each other and our surroundings.
How far we would go to make this world a far
better place or a Hell of earth. It makes
you stop and think, what would you do with
the power the people were given in the film.
The effects were average for a film of the
time period. Great effects were not needed
though. Watch, listen and think. The film
gets better each time you watch it. - scotmachigh

NIGHT THE WORLD EXPLODED, THE(1957)

An earthquake prediction machine has been developed
and it immediately predicts a big one! Not the best
of the set, but not terrible! Just kinda predictable! C+

A review from IMDb.com:

If you're looking at the reviews for Night the
World Exploded, you are probably already a
hopeless 50's sci-fi addict. But it's OK,
you're in good company.

This is actually a pretty engaging film that
may hold up to some repeated viewings. Although
the props and sets are not as good as they could
be, they still support a very interesting story
with good production values and some very good
B movie acting.

I would actually recommend this film above
The Unknown Terror and Flame Barrier. These
two are probably better films with bigger
budgets but have a very boring script with
little to no action.

Also, if you're into 'End of the World' flicks,
don't miss Crack In The World - one of the
best!! - captainapache

THE H-MAN(1958)

A Japanese entry to the sci-fi world. And OH, MY!
What a boring movie! The cruxt is that due to
radiation poisoning, people are being disintigrated!
Along with this, there's the story of gangsters
involved in drugs! Then there's the singer in a
nightclub that's singing in English and it doesn't
fit her at all! C

A review from IMDb.com:

THE H-MAN is a fine, and most rare, blend of
film noir and 1950s Japanese science fiction.
The film is filled with startling visuals from
start to finish. It grabs your attention and
rarely lets up. Favorite scenes involve the
events inside the derelict ghost ship and all
the scenes in the nightclub which abound with
the right atmosphere. Stylistic and often
startling visually, this is a lot of fun to
watch and get into. It does require one to
suspend their disbelief quite a bit
though. - Space_Mafune

12 TO THE MOON(1959):

A muti-national group of astronauts are on a
trip to the moon. One plus in this is that
Tom Conway(The Falcon movies of the 40s) is
here! B

A review from IMDb.com:

IMO this movie had pretty good music and sets
and photography and the dialogue was not that
corny and the storyline and imagination was
quite good for 1960. One curious feature was
that although the space suits were not bad
(similar or the same as in the Phantom Planet
which movie I also liked), the men's suits
had a little pouch in the frontal groin area
which left little to the imagination... - scottdou

BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE(1960):

Another Japanese movie! The Earth is being attacked
by flying saucers! And they're causing much havok!
This all leads to, wait for it, a Battle In Outer
Space!! B-

A review from IMDb.com:

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It is certainly
paced slower than modern sci-fi movies, but the
action moved along at a good pace nonetheless.
The backgrounds, matte work, color and special
effects were very impressive.

The one conceivable flaw was that there were
no stand out actors or personal relationships
(no love interest as there was in the original
Godzilla). This may have been intentional as
the story meant to emphasize a global effort
against a ruthless and cruel invader.) I would
rate this on the upper scale of Toho's scifi
efforts (anotehr under-rated, under-viewed
film would be "H-Men").

If you are a kaiju fan you will not be
disappointed. - libra_oct_1963

VALLEY OF THE DRAGONS(1961):

Same old story! Two men fighting a duel over
a woman when they get wisked away to a strange
world out of the past! Ok, maybe not a real
familliar tale! Anyway, though there isn't
a lot of talking throughout a good portion
of this movie, all-in-all not a bad watch! B

A review from an IMDb.com customer:

This movie was on fairly regularly when I was
a kid; my cousin and I would frequently watch
it together (she didn't share my enthusiasm
for the animal skin-clad women, but she loved
a scene where one of the cavemen gets eaten
by a dragon).

It was years later that I saw One Million B.C.
for the first time; I knew it was hailed as a
classic, but while I found it enjoyable (I
fell in love with Carole Landis), VOTD still
held more of a mystique for me.

I have since looked for it in various video
rental places with no success. It seems that
these days even the networks aim for more
sophisticated fare and overlook simpler joys
like this. Just because the movies have
graduated to Jurassic Park shouldn't mean
that we can't suspend our disbelief for a
brief period. VOTD should not be allowed
to become extinct! - moondragon85501
